Silvestar Kolbas is a Croatian cinematographer, photographer and film director. Born 12.04.1956. in Petrovci, Croatia. He graduated in Film and TV Camera in 1982 at the Academy of Dramatic Art in Zagreb. Today he is a full professor at the same school. As a cinematographer he has made a live-action and several feature, short and TV films, series and documentaries, both for television and independent productions. Lately he is mostly engaged in feature documentaries as cinematographer, but he also directed some personal, self-reflective documentaries (‘All About Eva’, ‘The War Reporter’, ‘20 Days on Tibet’, ‘Self-portrait’, ‘The Red Star Cinema’). In his films he used autobiographical starting point and discusses visual media. He also exhibited photographs, published and edited cinematography-related theses, has led numerous workshops and courses in film (School of Media of Croatian Film Club’s Association, various film festivals and cinema clubs).
