Stuart Forster is a freelance travel writer and photographer. He contributes to a number of leading magazines, newspapers and websites in the UK and internationally.
At the Holland Press Awards 2015 he was named Journalist of the Year for his body of work published in 2014 on the Netherlands and Dutch culture.
He has written and photographed for magazines such as National Geographic Traveller, National Geographic Kids, Australian Photography and The Wisden Cricketer plus newspapers including The Sydney Morning Herald, The Independent on Sunday and Times of India group publications. His photographs have appeared in newspapers such as the Financial Times, The Washington Post, The Hindu, The Sun and The Mirror.
Stuart is a member of several professional associations, including the National Union of Journalists (NUJ), Travelwriters UK and the British Guild of Travel Writers.
In May 2009 one of his images, photographed during a demonstration in Delhi, India, was selected for inclusion in the NUJ’s Photography Matters exhibition of 50 of the strongest news photographs taken by NUJ members during 2007 and 2008. The exhibition was held in London.
An avid traveler, the majority of his work is within the sphere of travel. He contributed to the book Driving Holidays Across India, the 2010 winner of India’s National Tourism Award for best travel publication in English. He subsequently contributed to the National Geographic book Secret Journeys of a Lifetime (volume two). In 2014 he contributed to The Irresponsible Traveller, published by Bradt.
Stuart played national league basketball and represented the University of Wales in the British Universities Sports Federation championships in 1992. He is also active in the field of intercultural studies (cross-cultural communication).
Films are one of Stuart’s passions, along with good food. He is director of Why Eye Photography and runs the travel blog, go-eat-do.com
